Records

Most of these documents were obtained from the US Federal government through FOIA, and they relate largely to film and TV productions made in direct collaboration with various government agencies, especially the military. This section of the archive (under the folder “US Federal Government”) is thus organized according to agency: US Army, FBI, CIA, etc.

Within the subfolders for each agency is a folder labeled “Productions,” inside of which are folders for each individual film or television production for which we have specific documents. For example, if you’re looking for records concerning the CIA’s involvement with Zero Dark Thirty, double click the folder labeled “US Federal Government,” then the folder labeled “Central Intelligence Agency (CIA),” then “Productions,” then “Zero Dark Thirty (2012).”

Note that not every film or TV show for which there is a folder was necessarily made in collaboration with the government. These folders contain government documents relating to productions, whether or not the productions received full government support.

Note also that this archive, while quite large, is not comprehensive: a great many other documents showing Hollywood-DC collaborations are known to exist but are not yet publicly available.

Under most agency subfolders, there are also folders labeled “Lists,” which contain Entertainment Liaison (ELO) reports and other lists of government-supported productions.
