President and Chief Executive Officer
Thomas Millary has a Master’s in Theology from Drew University and a Master’s in Religion from Rice University. His academic expertise lies in tracing the intersections of espionage history, pop culture, and religious movements, particularly esoteric and countercultural spiritualities. He also has a background in public education initiatives and academic editorial work.

Brett Carollo
Director of Research Operations
Brett Carollo is the Director of Research Operations for the Decoding Culture Foundation and the editor-in-chief of the Foundation’s magazine, Cultural Engineering Studies. He holds a PhD and an MA in Religion from Rice University, an MA in history from Arizona State University, and a BS in philosophy from SUNY Brockport. He is also the co-host, with Thomas Millary, of the Psyop Cinema podcast.

John Stroup
Head of Education Initiatives
John Stroup retired from teaching the history of Christianity at Rice University in December of 2022. He joined the Rice faculty in 1988 after teaching for seven years at the Yale Divinity School. His specialization is the intellectual and social history of German Protestantism. He has worked at Yale and at the Max-Planck-Institute for History Goettingen. The main influences on him come from Jaroslav Pelikan and Reinhart Koselleck. More broadly, his teaching has been under the inspiration of Burckhardt and Spengler.
